Today we bring you another installment in our weekly series of nonprofit fundraising Best Practices in Action. Each week, we’ll highlight an organization that has done an incredible job of promoting its online fundraising efforts with FirstGiving and show you how to do the same. This week’s Best Practice is. . .
Create a fundraising opportunity around an existing event.
Our friends at Soles4Souls wanted to run a 5K fundraising event to celebrate the organization’s 5-year anniversary. To make it easy for all their supporters around the country to participate, they joined World Run Day.
World Run Day, a worldwide event to celebrate running and charitable giving, is happening on November 8. The great thing about it is that it’s a virtual event, which means that anyone can participate wherever they happen to be on that day. You can read more about it here: www.firstgiving.com/worldrunday.
To get the word out, the folks at Soles4Souls posted a piece about the event to their website:
What’s more, they included an example fundraising page set up by Soles4Souls staff members to give supporters some ideas to get started. Brilliant!
So, to recap: You can turn an existing event into a fundraising opportunity. Encourage your community of supporters to participate virtually and raise money online.
Happy fundraising!
