Nonprofit spotlight: The Cure JM Foundation

NPOspotlightEach month we highlight a couple of our nonprofit partners who have unique fundraising events, great success stories, or something else fantastic going on that we’d like to tell you about. Next up in our nonprofit fundraising series, the nonprofit spotlight, is  The Cure JM Foundation.

The air is crisp, and without even stepping outside, you can tell that autumn has come to New England.  The leaves are crunching under our feet while many of our fundraisers have their feet out on the road, logging miles of training for marathons all over the country.  One of our nonprofit partners, Cure JM Foundation, has teams of charity runners in more than a few of them: Austin, Carlsbad, Cincinnati, Chicago, Denver and Portland.  Cure JM has also come up with an innovative fundraising idea–they’ve invited runners to virtually run any marathon and raise money with them.  Their top fundraiser is The DenUyl family, who ran the Chicago Marathon this past weekend and raised over $28,000!  Jacquelyne, Bruce, Clark and Eric DenUyl have participated in the Chicago Marathon every year since 2006.  This year the family goal is $30,000, and we are sure that they are going to get there with a few post-event donations!

The Cure JM Foundation was established in October 2003 to raise awareness of the rare disease, Juvenile Myositis, and fund research to find a cure.  Juvenile Dermatomyositis and Juvenile Polymyositis are the most common forms of JM and approximately 4,000 children suffer from this rare autoimmune disease.  The founders of the organization are Harriet Bollar, grandmother of a child with JM, and Shari Hume and Lisa Felix, both mothers of children with JM.  They were brought together because of their passion to never let another child suffer from JM.

Kudos Cure JM Foundation and good luck to all your runners!
