It’s no secret that every day, people are raising money online on FirstGiving by doing all kinds of creative things. Our hunch is that the secret to their success is often the sheer excitement generated by these creative endeavors. Whether they are growing mustaches, competing in Ironman events, or giving up birthday gifts, these fundraisers have family and friends who are behind them 100%, donating because they support the cause and because they are inspired by the creative effort!
Along with the many nonprofit causes we highlighted yesterday, September is a big month for birthdays, and we’ve seen a growing trend for birthday fundraising. Some people ask for donations to a nonprofit organization in lieu of their own birthday gifts, and others ask for donations in lieu of someone else’s birthday gifts. That’s right, recently we’ve had some significant celebrity fan sightings on FirstGiving. These folks have joined together around the cause of their favorite celeb’s birthday, for the even more important cause of supporting their celeb’s favorite charity:
- Kristin is raising money online for the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation in celebration of Nick Jonas
- Tiia is raising moeny online for the International Fund for Animal Welfare in celebration of Alexander Skarsgard
- Annegret is raising money online for Save the Children in celebration of Hugh Laurie
