Grammy award winning artist Alanis Morissette is running 26.2 miles to support the National Eating Disorders of America (NEDA).  NEDA advocates for funding for quality treatment, research and prevention of eating disorders.  Although the organization is still farily young (it was founded in 2001), these folks have a mature fundraising program going.  This fall, NEDA is hosting fundraising walks all across the country–their first national intitiative.

Alanis has choosen to run the Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon, which takes place at the scenic Lassen National Forest in Westwood-Susanville, CA.  This marathon is unique because it is run on remote roads, so there are not thousands of people cheering the athletes on.  It is just sneakers, trees, and a dirt road.  It’s no wonder that the always spiritual Alanis would choose this marathon and this great cause to fundraise for.  Here’s what Alanis has to say about it:

“Using my body as an instrument (versus solely as an ornament) has helped me shift into a more consistent and empowered sense of well-being. This commitment to my athleticism has been a great gateway to a new lifestyle and relationship to food. The journey of training for this marathon has allowed me to view food as delicious fuel/medicine, as well as exercise as an incredible practice of self-care and attunement. I’m inspired to share this journey with others and support NEDA in continuing to raise awareness around the delicate relationship some of us have around food, our bodies, and exercise, and ultimately, ourselves.”

We hope that Alanis’s run will not only inspire her fans to donate, but inspire them to fundraise as well for causes they care about.  Donate to Alanis fundrasing page by clicking here.   What is her fundraising goal?  She’s keeping that a secret, but our guess is $30,000 to match the 30 millions copies of Jagged Little Pill sold worldwide.

Wouldn’t that be ironic, don’t you think?
