Nonprofit spotlight: Gilda’s Club of Western Pennsylvania

NPOspotlightEach month we highlight a couple of our nonprofit partners who have unique fundraising events, great success stories, or something else fantastic going on that we’d like to tell you about. Next up in our nonprofit fundraising series, the nonprofit spotlight, is  Gilda’s Club of Western Pennsylvania, and their Today’s Faces of Gilda’s Club campaign.

Gilda’s Club was created in memoriam of Gilda Radner, who was a beloved comedian on Saturday Night Live.  She wanted to create a place where all types of people dealing and living with cancer could “come as they are” and share their experiences with people going through the same thing.   The center’s trademark big red doors are welcoming to people of all ages who have cancer, or know someone who does.  The center offers everything from Steelers tailgate parties to a weekly pasta night where everyone gathers around to watch the SNL’s Best of Gilda Radner DVD, which never gets old.

It’s no surprise that Gilda’s Club embraces comedy in all of their events–laughter is often the best medicine.  This year Gilda’s Club of Western Pennsylvania ran a fundraising campaign called Today’s Faces of Gilda’s Club which concludes September 17 with a comedy event at a local improv club.  Congratulations to all who fundraised, and kudos to Gilda’s Club, we are sure Roseanne Roseannadanna would be proud!
