When your supporters donate to your nonprofit through Firstgiving, they automatically receive a thank-you email which includes a message that you can customize.
Today’s Tip:
Make sure to include your IRS details in your thank-you email.
If donations made to your nonprofit are tax deductible, then contributions made to your nonprofit through the Firstgiving site are as well, so be sure to communicate this to your donors by customizing the thank-you copy with the “tax deductible” verbiage that makes it legal to claim donations on taxes.
Not sure what this means? Please see page 29 under “Substanstiation Rules” of the IRS compliance guide for public charities.
Here’s a brief video that shows how and where you can edit the content of your thank-you email.
