A couple of weeks ago, we blogged about the Nevada Opera Association’s campaign to raise money online to avoid closing their doors on great opera programming this season.
We just received an email from artistic director Michael Borowitz with some great news: thanks to their networks of supporters and donors, Nevada Opera met and surpassed their fundraising goal! This achievement in turn made them eligible to receive a $50,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor, which means that Nevada Opera programming will continue as planned for the 2008-2009 season.
A committed director, Borowitz had these inspiring words for the donor community:
We COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!
We at Nevada Opera promise to be excellent stewards of your donations, and in the spirit of your generosity we have made some dramatic cuts to our budget to ensure that next season will be not only a season of great music and theatre, but also a season of rebuilding financial health and stability. As some of you may already know, I have pledged to give up my salary as Artistic Director for next season; and we have drastically reduced our spending next season while maintaining the highest quality performances that you have come to know and treasure!
Once again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your boundless generosity and support of the opera, probably the grandest of all the arts!
But do you know what else you can do? Tell everyone about what wonderful productions we do! Invite a friend to share the opera with you. You have seen how powerful your donations can be… let’s keep that energy going!
I’m so happy to be able to say… see you at the OPERA!
Congratulations; we are thrilled for your success!
