To say there’s been a lot of talk recently about “green” things would be an understatement. You can’t peruse a newspaper or jump into the Twitterverse without coming across phrases like “global warming,” “carbon tax” or “energy efficiency.” Green is on everyone’s mind.
Amidst the frenzy of green product marketing and the efforts of world leaders to address environmental concerns, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that environmental NPOs have been championing the green cause for ages. Here are just a few of the big ones:
- Environmental Defense
- Sierra Club
- Wildlife Conservation Society
- Greenpeace
- World Wildlife Fund
- Defenders of Wildlife
Firstgiving has always been pretty green (literally), and especially when it comes to helping people raise money online for environmental organizations, small and large. Take Linda, for example, who is fundraising for Grist Magazine with her personal fundraising page. Grist is an online, non-profit publication where you can read about things like the rundown on eco-friendly ice melt, a recipe for easy vegan chocolate cake, and the FDA’s controversial position on high fructose corn syrup.
And then there’s Lorin, who ran the Carlsbad Marathon to raise money for the Environmental and Energy Study Institute.
Kudos to all of our green fundraisers and best wishes for success on the road to your fundraising goals!
