Earlier this week, we received this email from Mary, Vice President of Special Olympics New Hampshire:
Dear Family and Friends,
Due to the difficult economic times SONH has had to make some difficult decisions in making cuts to our budget. Unfortunately one of those cuts is for the traditional Fireworks at our State Winter Games and State Summer Games. Cutting out a Fireworks display doesn’t seem to be a great hardship but I’m afraid it will be a huge disappointment for our athletes. At every State Games for 40 years fireworks have been the highlight for athletes during Opening Ceremonies.
This year my goal is to personally raise the funds to have the Fireworks! I will do that through our largest state fundraising event The Penguin Plunge! The Finance Committee and the SONH President have agreed that I may dedicate the funds I raise towards having our Fireworks in 2009. Please, help support my goal and I promise if you come and see the Opening Ceremonies you will be extremely happy and excited at how meaningful and important your donation was.
You can easily donate online at my Fundraising Page: http://www.firstgiving.com/marytconroy
This is a great example of responding to adversity by finding a way out. Kudos, Mary! We’ve made a donation to your page in support of your online fundraising efforts.
