Police officers in South Dakota are going behind bars this Saturday.
They’re not facing corruption charges; they have voluntarily given up their freedom to help raise money for Special Olympics in the second annual “Lock up a Cop” fundraising event. A donation of $1 will buy you approximately one minute of confinement for Joel or Cora.
The best part of the event? “Seeing the faces of those (Special Olympians) who are able to compete” because of the donations, says Joel.
The worst part? Having to eat all the donuts people bring to them in their state of confinement, thinking surely they must be hungry.
Joel and Cora have set up their own personal fundraising pages for the event here and here. And they’ve got local media coverage here.
For the sake of Special Olympics South Dakota, we hope you stay locked up for a long, long time.
