From the official Santa Speedo Run site:
It was 2:23 pm on Saturday, December 16th, 2000 and the crowd of holiday shoppers erupted into earth-shattering applause, screaming and cheering as five brave men ran past them on Newbury Street wearing nothing but Santa hats, Santa beards and Speedos.
Fast forward to 2007, and the Santa Speedo Run had become an iconic local event in Boston. 400 people joined in to run in their skivvies in 2007, and since the event’s inception, runners had raised $240,000 for 8 different Boston charities.
But it gets better. This year, 450 runners have created personal fundraising pages to raise money online for Cradles to Crayons, and they’ve almost hit the $120,000 donation mark for this year’s online fundraising alone. The runners, including Firstgiving’s own Maggi Berwind-Dart will be taking to the streets in their suits this Saturday, December 13th at 1.00 pm.
Feeling the holiday cheer? Head down to Newbury Street to give them a shout-out. Or join them!
