It’s cheesy, we know. Well, the cold air is really starting to blow in here in Boston, though we’ve had a few nice spells reminiscent of warmer days. Here’s what’s going on this month in awareness news around the U.S., along with some NPO highlights for these causes. November is. . .
- National Adoption Awareness Month
The National Council for Adoption is an adoption advocate and expert that works on behalf of all parties to adoption and its member adoption agencies around the country.
- Lung Cancer Awareness Month
The Lung Cancer Alliance works to to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering those with or at risk for the disease, elevating awareness and changing health policy. Fundraisers have raised almost $30,000 on Firstgiving.com.
- National Alzheimers Awareness Month
The National Alzheimers Association is a voluntary health organization dedicated to finding preventions, treatments and, eventually, a cure for Alzheimer dementia. Fundraisers have raised amost $8,000 on Firstgiving.com.
- Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raises money for direct, private funding of pancreatic cancer research – and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Fundraisers have raised over $1,000,000 on Firstgiving.com.
- Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
The Prostate Cancer Education Council has coordinated the National Prostate Cancer Awareness Week for over a decade and has the mission to save lives through the education of men and the women in their lives, as well as the medical community about the prevalence of prostate cancer, the importance of early detection and the available treatment options.
- American Diabetes Awareness Month
The American Diabetes Association provides diabetes research, information and advocacy. Fundraisers have raised over $20,000 on Firstgiving.com.
- National Family Caregivers Month
The National Family Caregivers Association works to enhance the lives of America’s caregiving families by educating, supporting, empowering, and speaking up for the millions of people who care for loved ones with chronic or disabling conditions.
We’d also like to mention that Thursday, November 20 is the annual Great American Smokeout hosted by the American Cancer Society. for whom fundraisers have raised almost $50,000 on Firstgiving.com.
