July Awareness Month

Since we are now ten days into the new month, it is time to announce the National Health Observances for July! Here they are folks:

Homeochromatosis

International Group B Strep

Juvenile Arthritis

UV Safety

I think you would agree that July appears to be a meager month for health observances. Perhaps the awareness community is preoccupied with beach trips, summer concerts, or trying to stand all this humidity. Whatever the reason may be, I think we can look upon this low clutter of awareness as a great opportunity. If you are passionate about any of these four conditions, then let it be known! Take full advantage of the lack of competing causes and promote your Firstgiving page through blog posts, online network communities, e-mails, word-of-mouth, and much more.

This is your chance to bring attention to lesser known, yet no less important, conditions. Few people probably know that International Group B Strep is the leading cause of meningitis and blood infections in newborns, or that over 300,000 children in America have arthritis. The more these diseases become widely recognized, sympathized with, and fundraised for, the closer we can come to a cure.

Good luck and have a successful Homeochromatosis/ International Group Be Strep/ Juvenile Arthriis/ UV Safety Awareness month!
