Fundraising Idea: Life is a … Train Ride?

For those of you that visit our homepage often, you may have noticed that Phyllis’ online fundraising page has appeared in our top fundraising box for weeks!  Today, I vowed to find out why.  Not surprisingly, Phyllis has followed many of Firstgiving’s most proven best practices.

  1. Personalize your page: Take the time to make your page your own.  Add a picture and a message telling people why you’re fundraising and why they should donate
  2. Team up with the nonprofit: Get in touch with the organization you’re raising money for and ask to be included on their website, in their next newsletter, etc.
  3. Make numerous asks: Email is usually the most effective way to get people to donate online to your fundraising page, but what about people you don’t know?  Phyllis, or Pixie, set up a website with a moving montage of life as a train ride to help families deal with raising autistic children.  At the end, she asks people to donate to the fundraising page she made in honor of her granddaughter, Aly.  The train ride has been watched by over 2 million people.
