Running in Someone Else’s Shoes

Throughout January, we have seen incredible fundraising efforts put forth by very young adults.  Allie and Aaron are selflessly asking others to celebrate their birthdays by donating to FARA, and this morning, I read about an 11-year-old running a half marathon to symbolize the distance some African children walk everyday in order to attend school.  This past Sunday, Nicholas Burton, age 11, completed the Vancouver Lake Half Marathon in Washington and has already raised over $2,000 for Team World Vision.  As Nicholas explains on his fundraising page, "it is so powerful to me that some children have never gone to school. I’m running to change that."

Especially touched by his parents’ visit to Senegal, Nicholas understands that his actions make a difference.   Even at 11-years-old, he understands that by running the half marathon, he can help others his age attend school, have access to clean water, and more.
