Most 16 year-olds use their birthdays to ask for a car or perhaps the latest technology trend. Allie, though, has a more awe-inspiring idea of what she wants for her 16th birthday: a cure to Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare genetic disease that affects Allie and her brother, Aaron, as well as approximately 8,000 Americans. Allie and Aaron both have their birthdays at the end of January, and they have joined together to celebrate by making a difference.
Aside from incredible strength and hope within Allie and Aaron, there is something else that makes their effort even more special. Allie and Aaron have set out to raise $10,000 by asking people to donate just $1 apiece. Their only birthday wish is to reach this goal "one buck at a time." I’m sure larger amounts are welcome, but if every visitor to their page donated just one dollar, Allie and Aaron would have their birthday wishes granted in no time. And chances are, you wouldn’t even miss that buck…
