Veg-a-thon

If you’ve followed the blogs and newsletters I’ve written over the last several months you already know that "non-a-thons" and "anything-a-thons" are a few of my favorite things, and you’ll appreciate just how excited I was when Laurel (our head of Marketing) got an email from the cool folks at veg-a-thon.com

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, there is a group of people – with a website – advocating a new kind of fundraiser: a veg-a-thon.  The idea is that, instead of running for 26.2 miles (a marathon) or dancing for 24 hours straight (a dance-a-thon), you eat a vegetarian diet for one month, and thereby raise money for charity.

The reason Maura emailed us about the site is that they recommend using Firstgiving for the fundraising aspect of the project.  Their site walks you step by step through the process of getting your veg-a-thon rolling, and the "collecting pledges" page – though it does mention a few other options – dedicates an entire paragraph to Firstgiving!  (Thanks, veg-a-thon.com!  We’re flattered!)

Whatever your feelings on veggies themselves, I urge you to check out www.veg-a-thon.com and see what they have to say.  If nothing else you’ll get some good food for thought.  (Sorry about the pun.)

  1. Thanks for the link, one correction though: a veg-a-thon, as I define it, can last from anywhere from one to eight weeks. I recommend at least 21 days because I have read that that is the amount of time it takes to break a habit.

  2. Thanks for correcting that, Maura. Sorry for the mistake!
