FOTW or Baywatch Ain’t Got Nothin’ on Her

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce this week’s FOTW. . .
Nellat
NELLA YOUNG!

Nella has recently completed a swim from Powell Point to Lighthouse Beach along the coast of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.  Nella did extensive training for her 9 day saga (snowy travel delays included!) in the Bahamas and was even sponsored by Bill Steele of Breakwater Sports.  Nella is one savvy swimmer, she documented her training plans at her website Nellayoung.com and included maps. training, and information regarding the charity she is supporting. It took Nella five days to complete the aproximate 21 miles of her expedition.  Nella, you are a certified do gooder.

Nella is supporting the Cape Eleuthera Foundation, a foundation that supports The Island School, the Deep Creek Middle School, Swim to Empower and the Cape Eleuthera Institute. She worked at the Island School from 2002-2003 and contacted friends to see if there was a project she could support, who directed her to Swim to Empower.  Swim to Empower is a non-profit organization founded by two Island School alumni and is a month long program that teaches native Bahamians how to swim, basic first aid, and safety skills!  The idea stems from the Island School’s devotion to learning from the environment and fostering inspiration from the local marine area.   Swim to Empower believes that if individuals can learn about their environment they are more apt to care about taking good care of it.  It’s a great cause and we are overjoyed that Nella has decided to combine her trip with something so fantastic!

Nella, we bow before you.
